[ barry's life definitely flashes before his eyes at his full name being used. "bartholomew" is pretty much a death sentence. ]

[ barry hasn't learnt you can edit how you'd normally talk through texting. ]

I was really, really, really hungry?

[ is this the moment where he admits he'd been doing what they'd agreed he wouldn't do? staying out until 4am chasing after metas who didn't keep to bedtimes was sort of a thing he was meant to be getting better at not doing. restraint, the flash doesn't know thee very well. ]

[ that will be the 'message in progress' image flashing on the screen, for the next upteenth minutes while linda finishes her cup of coffee and angry types at her laptop. ]

you're not out for a run, are you?

I'm not really running if I'm texting you, am I? We both know how well that went last time.

[ ha ha. ]

[ last time? the messages were full of the wrong versions of the autocorrected typoed words and "sjdfkls sdfjskdfklsfkls". barry may be the fastest man alive, but he hasn't quite gotten the hang of messaging with a few taps of his fingers while running. voice to text doesn't work in his favour, either; there's too much wind. ]

[ she stares at the phone for a few minutes, anger gone as quick as it had come. she doesn't exactly need the donut, or the shake, or even really the coffee.

it's a nice gesture, and she knows it gives him something to do while she works late to try and finish an article that should have been written by some intern with the flu, but she'd much rather be in bed with her boyfriend in the middle of the night.

it's one of those frustrating realizations that, sometimes, barry and linda just prioritize things differently. she lets out a soft huff, closing the laptop, and heads upstairs to settle into bed. ]

don't stay out too late, okay?

[ it's difficult to read anything through text, obviously. barry can easily take this as her laughing and not wanting him to overstay his welcome to the night's party, or this can be her way of not letting him know he's disappointed her again. ]

[ it's hard to break a habit of being a night owl, a literal one that hoots toward metas who are too afraid to come out during the day, even when he has a good incentive to. ]

When's Barry-stops-being-a-distraction o'clock again? I have donuts to deliver. And a finished article to celebrate.
